What You Need to Know About the Lisbon Airport

If you are someone who is interested in travel to the beautiful city of Lisbon, there is a good chance that you are going to be flying in. If you are planning to fly into the city of Lisbon, you will be flying into the Lisbon Portela Airport. What should you expect and what should you be prepared for? If you are in a place where you are traveling to any foreign city or if you are simply planning a trip to Lisbon and want to be prepared, you'll finding that knowing more about the airport itself can help you hit the ground running. Take some time and make sure that you consider what your options are and what you can do when you are thinking about getting the trip that you need.

In the first place, you need to be aware of the basics. Lisbon's airport is known fully as Lisbon Portela airport, and it is located at Alameda das Comunidades Portuguesas, 1700-111 Lisbon, Portugal. There are two terminals, and the airport is conveniently located just four miles or seven kilometers away from the Lisbon city center. This makes it an easy trip for anyone who is centrally located and you will find that getting transportation to and from the airport is actually quite simple. The main terminal services both domestic and international flights, while a newer, second terminal services domestic flights. There is an expansion planned for the main terminal, and a new runway in the works as well.

It is important to remember that the two terminals are far enough apart that taking the free shuttle is going to be necessary, so if you are planning on flying out of Lisbon, know where your flight is going and where you need to be to pick it up. Arriving at the airport two hours in advance of your flight is important and you will find that in that time, you will be able to smooth over any issues that you might run into.

How can you get to the Lisbon Portela Airport? If you are driving from the north, you can take the Lisbon motorway and then the 2nd Circular. If you are coming from the south, take the Vasco de Gama Bridge to the second circular. The airport is very easy to reach and you will find that it is clearly marked. Once you have come to the airport, you are going to find that there is both long term car parking available as well as short term parking. There is also a free airport shuttle that will take you from the car parks to the terminal and back.

When you are thinking about departing from the airport to head into the city of Lisbon itself, you will discover that there are plenty of car hires that are available when you get there. Simply look for the car rental desks that are located in the Arrivals area of the airport. Similarly, you will find that the Aerobus runs to the city center and to the railway station, and that there are also several local city buses that stop there as well.

If you are looking at the airport facilities, you will find that there is a bank and a post office in the Departures area, as well as an area for currency exchange. There are also going to be wireless Internet hotspots for you to take advantage of, and there are also plenty of restaurants, snack bars and cafes in the area as well. There are a series of duty free shops and even showers available in the Departures boarding lounges.

One thing that you will note is that there are no hotels at the airport itself. If you are planning a holiday visit to Lisbon, make sure that you book your Lisbon lodging well in advance online. This is something that can make your trip go much more smoothly and it will not have you scrambling for opinions at the last minute. Take some time to look into Lisbon holiday apartments  that are perfect for you, and think about how you are going to be able to get the space that you need.
